Buying a home on the Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca stretches for around 200 kilometres along Spain’s east coast, in the province of Alicante. Its name, “White Coast”, refers to the fine, pale sandy beaches and whitewashed houses that define the landscape. For many Dutch and Belgian visitors, this is their first introduction to Spain—and with good reason.
The World Health Organization once praised its microclimate as one of the healthiest in the world. Mild winters, dry summers and a pleasant sea breeze make the region comfortable all year round. The differences between the northern and southern Costa Blanca are greater than many people realise, and often help determine which type of home is right for you.

For those looking to enjoy a pleasant Mediterranean climate, the sea and a relaxed way of life, with the charm of authentic Spanish villages and all everyday amenities close at hand.

Outdoor living

What you’d like to know about the Costa Blanca
Which town on the Costa Blanca is right for you?+
That depends entirely on what you are looking for in a place to live. If you value tranquillity, nature, character and an exclusive Mediterranean atmosphere, towns such as Jávea, Moraira, Altea and Dénia often feel like a natural fit. If you prefer wide sandy beaches, flat surroundings, excellent amenities and a lively international community, Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and Guardamar are well worth considering.
What is the easiest way to reach the Costa Blanca?+
The most convenient airport depends on where your property is located. For most of the Costa Blanca, Alicante-Elche Airport is the natural choice, with daily direct flights from the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are buying a property on the northern Costa Blanca, Valencia Airport is often an excellent alternative. Towns such as Dénia are almost halfway between Alicante and Valencia, putting both airports within easy reach. For properties in the south of the Costa Blanca, including around Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja, Murcia International Airport can also be a practical option.
How much do properties on the Costa Blanca cost?+
The Costa Blanca offers a wide choice of properties in almost every price bracket. In general, property prices are higher than on the Costa Cálida but lower than on the Costa del Sol. Within the Costa Blanca, however, prices vary considerably. In the north, in towns such as Jávea, Moraira and Altea, average prices are higher thanks to their exclusive locations, green surroundings and strong demand. In the south, you will often find a wider choice of properties at more attractive prices.
What are winters like on the Costa Blanca?+
The Costa Blanca is known for its pleasant Mediterranean climate. In winter, daytime temperatures average between 16 and 20°C, with plenty of sunshine and relatively little rainfall. This mild climate lets you make the most of outdoor living even in winter.
Is it easy to feel at home on the Costa Blanca if you are from the Netherlands?+
Yes. The Costa Blanca has been home to a large Dutch-speaking community for many years. You will also find Dutch-speaking GPs, a variety of shops, clubs and other amenities. For many people, this makes the move to a home in Spain much easier.
